Helsingin Kaupunginteatterin Nykyesityksen näyttämö – avoin haku kesäresidenssiin vuodelle 2025

Nykyesityksen näyttämö jatkaa Studio Pasilassa osana Helsingin Kaupunginteatterin ohjelmistoa. Jatkossa ohjelmistoa tehdään sekä kutsumenettelyllä että avoimen haun kautta. Etsimme nyt ehdotuksia Nykyesityksen näyttämön kesäresidenssin kantaesitykseksi vuodelle 2025.  

Etsimme 31.10.2023 avautuvassa avoimessa haussa ehdotuksia, jotka   

• haastavat edustamansa taiteenlajin tai -lajien konventioita. Tässä mielessä nykyesitys tarkoittaa esityksiä, jotka ottavat tietoisen suhteen taiteenlajin historiaan ja tarkastelevat niitä uudenlaisista näkökulmista. Aiemmin Nykyesityksen näyttämöllä on esimerkiksi tehty puheteatteriesitys koreografisista lähtökohdista ja nukketeatteria nanofysiikan menetelmin. 
• uudistavat tai ravistelevat eri tavoin (teatteri)näyttämöä ja sen käytäntöjä. Olemme kiinnostuneita erityisesti siitä, mikä tekee esityksestä nykyesityksen studio Pasilan kaltaisessa teatteritilassa, jossa näyttämö ja katsomo asettuvat vastakkain. Teatterisalissa on 328-paikkainen katsomo, sekä n. 7 metriä syvä ja 16 metriä leveä lava. Toivomme myös, että esityksissä käytetään mahdollisimman paljon salin kiinteän katsomon kapasiteettia. 
• ottavat huomioon, että Nykyesityksen näyttämö on Helsingin kaupunginteatterin näyttämö: se toimii suhteessa sitä ympäröivään kaupunkiin ja sen asukkaisiin. 
• ovat sitoutuneita kahden kuukauden harjoitusaikaan kesä-heinäkuussa 2025. 

Valinnoista vastaavat Nykyesityksen näyttämön kuraattorit Tuomas Laitinen, Riikka Thitz ja Suvi Tuominen.  

Nykyesityksen näyttämön ohjelmistovalinnoissa korostetaan moninaisuutta ja ylirajaisuutta: esimerkiksi esityksiä, jotka eivät asetu mihinkään perinteiseen esitysgenreen. Moninaisuutta voidaan tarkastella esimerkiksi estetiikkojen, taiteenlajien, iän, kansallisuuksien tai sukupuolen moninaisuuden kannalta.  

Helsingin Kaupunginteatterin tavoitteisiin on kirjattu ympäristövastuun ja työturvallisuuden aspektit, joita kuljetetaan suunnittelussa mukana alusta asti.

Tarjoamme valitulle esitysehdotukselle:  

• Kahdeksan viikon työskentelyresidenssin studio Pasilan näyttämöllä kesä-heinäkuussa 2025 
• Studio Pasilan näyttämön esityskaudelle elokuussa 2025  
• Esitysten lipputulot kokonaisuudessaan 
• Viestinnän ja markkinoinnin osana Helsingin Kaupunginteatterin kausiohjelmistoa 
• Studio Pasilan teatterisalin tekniset resurssit sekä vakituisen teknisen henkilökunnan työpanoksen erikseen sovitusti 
• Keskustelu- ja työskentelyaikaa Nykyesityksen näyttämön kuraattorin ja viestintävastaavan kanssa 

Residenssiin ei sisälly tuotantotukea. Etsimme esityksiä, joilla on jo olemassa omarahoitus hankkeen työskentely- ja tuotantokustannuksiin tai esityksiä, jotka ollaan valmiita toteuttamaan hakemalla rahoitusta muualta.  

Hakuohjeet 

Avoin haku on suunnattu pääkaupunkiseudulla työskenteleville ammattitaiteilijoille ja heidän muodostamilleen työryhmille. 

Avoin haku tapahtuu henkilökohtaisten online-tapaamisten muodossa. Hakuun osallistuva taiteilija tai taiteilijaryhmä tapaa yhden kuraattoreista ja esittelee esitysideaansa haluamallaan tavalla. 

Henkilökohtaisilla tapaamisilla kuraattorit pyrkivät tarjoamaan vaihtoehdon hakuprosesseille, joissa keskeiseksi nousee se, kuinka hyvin esitysten tekijät osaavat kirjoittaa työstään. Tapaamisiin perustuva haku mahdollistaa myös hakijan ja kuraattorin välisen keskustelun jo hakuvaiheessa. Yksittäin suoritettujen tapaamisten jälkeen kuraattorit valitsevat ehdotukset, joiden kanssa jatketaan tuotantoneuvotteluja joulukuussa 2023 – tammikuussa 2024.  

Tapaamiset toteutetaan ajalla 13.–24.11.2023. Tapaamisten kesto on 45 minuuttia ja ne toteutetaan Teams-yhteyden kautta. Lisätietoja hakutapaamisesta saat ilmoittautumisen jälkeen. 

Voit varata ajan tapaamiseen valitsemasi kuraattorin kanssa. Huom! Aikoja on rajoitettu määrä. 

• Varauslinkit aukeavat 31.10.2023 klo 9. 
• Haku on auki 10.11.2023 saakka tai niin kauan, kunnes kaikki ajat ovat varattuja. 
• Kullakin kuraattorilla on 20 tapaamisaikaa, joten ilmoittautumista ei kannata jättää viime hetkeen.

Helsinki City Theatre’s Stage for Contemporary Performance – open call for summer residency for the year 2025 

The Stage for Contemporary Performance continues in studio Pasila as part of the Helsinki City Theatre’s seasonal programme. In the future, the programming of the Stage for Contemporary Performance is made by invitations and open calls. In this open call we are looking for proposals for a summer residency and premiere for the year 2025. 

The call opens on 31 October 2023. We are looking for proposals that 

• challenge the conventions of the genre / genres they represent. In this sense, contemporary performance means performances that take a conscious relationship to the history of the art form and examine them from new perspectives. In the past our programme has included, for example, speech theatre based on choreographic principles and puppetry based on methods of nanophysics. 
• renew or disrupt the (theatre) stage and its practices in different ways. We are particularly interested in what makes a contemporary performance in a theatre space like studio Pasila, where the stage and the auditorium stand opposite each other. The theatre has a 328-seat auditorium and a stage approx. 7 meters deep and 16 meters wide. We hope that the performances will use as much of the auditorium’s fixed capacity as possible. 
• take into account that the stage is part of the Helsinki City Theatre: it works in relation to the surrounding city and its inhabitants. 
• are committed to a two-month training period in June-July 2025. 

The selections are made by the curatorial team of the Stage for Contemporary Performance: Suvi Tuominen, Tuomas Laitinen and Riikka Thitz. 

The program of the Stage for Contemporary Performance emphasises diversity and interdisciplinarity: for example, performances that do not fit into any traditional performance genre. By diversity we mean e.g., in terms of aesthetics, arts, age, nationalities or gender.   

The objectives of Helsinki City Theatre include aspects regarding environmental responsibility and professional safety, which are included in the productions planning from the very beginning.

We offer to the selected performance proposal: 

• An eight-week residency in studio Pasila in June-July 2025 
• A performance season at Studio Pasila’s stage in August 2025 
• The total amount of ticket sales of the performances 
• Communication and marketing as part of the Helsinki City Theatre’s seasonal program 
• The technical resources of Studio Pasila’s theatre space and the work input of the permanent technical staff as separately agreed 
• Discussion and working time with the curator and communications manager of the Stage for Contemporary Performance 

Financial production support is not included in the residency. We are looking for productions that have either exciting self-financing regarding salaries and other productional costs or productions that are ready rely on applying funding from elsewhere. 

Application instructions 

The open application is aimed at professional artists and groups working in the Helsinki capital region.  

The open call takes place in the form of personal online meetings. Each of the applicants meets one of the curators and present their performance idea in the way of their choice. 

With personal meetings, the curators aim to offer an alternative to application processes, where the focus is on how well the artist can write about their work. Application process based on meetings enables a conversation between the applicant and the curator already at the application stage. After the individual meetings, curators select the proposals with which the production negotiations will continue in December 2023-January 2024. 

The meetings will take place between 13 and 24 November 2023. The duration of the meetings is 45 minutes, and they are carried out via Teams. You will get more information about the application meeting after registration. 

You can book an appointment with the curator of your choice. Note! There is a limited number of times. 

The booking links open on 31 October 2023 at 9 am. The booking site is open until 10 November 2023, or until all appointments are booked. Each curator has 20 appointment times, so you shouldn’t leave registration until the last minute.
