Review: Kiviä taskussa

Helsinki City Theatre’s Studio Pasila’s tragicomedy Stones in Your Pocket is a mind-blowingly fine play, it’s a case. Imagine: a performance that combines a new kind of form, fine text, masterful actors, insightful direction and stunning scenography.

The play, written by Irishman Marie Jones, tells the story of two wretches who are hired in a small Irish village as assistants to an American film with unpredictable consequences.

The virtuosic Mika Nuojua and Martti Suosalo all play fifteen roles, from a dude to a star actress. And how they act! Both have both the technique of acting and their hearts in the right place.

“The best theatre performance I’ve ever seen,” someone said in the foyer.
Much said, huh? Go and see for yourself. At least I left the premiere half a meter off the ground, with tears in my eyes and my heart pounding like a newlywed.
