Review: De obehöriga
“A housing company meeting turns into both screwball comedy and horror at Lilla Teatern
John Ajvide Lindqvist has written a wildly funny and suitably spooky comedy about a housing company meeting spiralling out of control.
De obehöriga at Lilla Teatern, directed by David Sandqvist, offers comedy that is instantly relatable.
The neighbours are much like everyone else: ordinary and unhinged, each in their own understated way. They all harbour some vague anxiety and obsessive thoughts.
A mother of young children (Lommi) worries that her children will be exposed to dangerous chemicals.
The hipster who works with dogs at a doggy day care (Rahem) suffers from such acute existential FOMO that he is driven out into the streets at night, anywhere at all, unable to bear the feeling that life is passing him by.
The gentleman from Töölö (Wigelius) cannot shake the feeling that the neighbourhoods he has known since childhood are somehow shifting and moving in barely perceptible ways.
Sarkola’s man in a flannel shirt radiates the discomfort of a middle-aged man who feels out of step with the times. Everything about him seems to chafe against new expectations of masculinity and new ways of speaking, leaving him touchy and argumentative.
Pia Runnakko steals the show as her dazzling neighbour, who inhabits a kind of tabloid reality where people are being shot dead left, right and centre.”
