Pia Runnakko plays the deeply unsympathetic father with great comic ability. In her handling, he develops into a tragic and multifaceted character who is firmly entrenched in his mercilessly narrow male role and class affiliation. His redeeming trait is the split caused by his – despite everything – unconditional love for his son, which proves to be a gentle support in his last moments.
