THE HIGH PRICE OF REVENGE

When the owner of the Humming Ridge brings street kid Heathcliff into his home, he changes the lives of his children, Cathy and Hindley. Heathcliff and Cathy grow up free on the moors as they run inseparably together, and Hindley, who feels disadvantaged, is expelled to boarding school by his father. When Hindley returns, the parts are reversed. Cruel oppression begins, a spiral of revenge begins, and class differences emerge. Lauri Maijala’s impressive direction of Emily Brontë’s classic novel charms and distresses at the same time. Oona Airolan Cathy’s transformation from a wild child of nature to a human ruin is harrowing, but the fate of the avengers is also brutal to watch. The last thing that remains in my head is the animalistic vocalization of Heathcliff’s neglected son, Hareton. Both love and lack of love can have horrible consequences.
