Review: & Julia

“Run – don’t walk – to see Helsinki City Theatre’s & Julia: it’s that good

Directed by Samuel Harjanne, the musical & Julia blows the dust off Shakespeare’s classic at Helsinki City Theatre, set to the rhythm of Max Martin’s greatest hits. (…)

I was particularly impressed by the songs. Only parts of them had been seamlessly translated into Finnish, allowing them to drive the dialogue while retaining the familiar original choruses. Eeva Kontu leads the orchestra superbly. (…)

Having already enjoyed runs on Broadway and in the West End, the musical & Julia is an utterly charming and irresistible package of humour, a fresh story, familiar hits and outstanding singing and dancing. (…)

It’s hard to believe that the magnificent Renée Böök is making her debut in a leading stage role as Juliet: she is so natural and self-assured among the experienced cast.”
