Review: Maratontanssit

“The adaptation of McCoy’s novel, interpreted with youthful fervor by the third-year students of the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, brings to mind the strangling of current culture. What will the marathon of these soon-to-be-graduating artists be like? (…) Fortunately, no attempt has been made to bring the story to the present day, and that is precisely why it is so effective in its association with the present. The atmosphere of the 1930s is nicely conveyed in the costumes and the authentic-looking, echoing sound design. Stylish lighting is Outi Vedenpää’s artistic thesis (…) The members of the Theatre Academy, who vary in several different roles, show that they perform well together.”
