Review: Uusi Eden

“The new Eden elevates deprivation and suffering to comic proportions, and collides its desolate horror image with the light revelry that is typical of musicals. The image of the sinking Titanic comes to mind, in the dance hall of which the violins play until the very end.

Henri Lyysaari, one of the promising theatre composers of the young generation, conducts his small orchestra himself behind the keyboard. The quartet rocks, and sometimes smoothly shifts to a more acoustic gear and serves up just the right amount of melodic surprises and harmonic delicacies – as good musical music should be.

And there is no shortage of skills or interpretation on stage either.”
