Review: Nauravan kulkurin tarina
“Nauravan kulkurin tarina playwright Sami Keski-Vähälä has done meticulous work, as has the entire ensemble.
Drawing on Keski-Vähälä’s experience (including Neljäs tie and Jatkuvaa kasvua), Loiri’s life—overflowing with subjects and themes—has been transformed into a recognisable production that confidently embraces its own perspective. This is a particular strength when such an abundance of material could easily pull the production in many different directions.
Laced with humour, the production’s visions become increasingly poignant towards the end.
As Maria Ylipää’s silhouette rises towards the reddish horizon, then descends and the horizon fades away, the young and old Vesku stand face to face on the black revolving stage. An elegy. Darkness.”
