Review: Nauravan kulkurin tarina
“Good heavens, what a band. They alone, with Maria Ylipää serving mainly as soloist, would be worth listening to for an entire concert.
On Wednesday, however, they were ‘just’ one part of a large, well-oiled machine on the Helsinki City Theatre’s Main Stage (…)
Nauravan kulkurin tarina, written by Sami Keski-Vähälä, is excellent in both structure and pacing. As is the adaptation by Westerberg. (…)
Nauravan kulkurin tarina is as much a love letter to the era of a shared national culture – when distinctions such as ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture still held sway – as it is a loving tribute to Vesa-Matti Loiri.
The wonderful thing is that the production achieves all this without any of the pompous male-genius mythology or mustiness that a work like this could so easily fall into in less capable hands.”
