Two Men and a Woman Under the Same Roof – Threesome is a hilarious comedy

The Threesome play is downright hyper-hilarious! Rarely have I watched a play where people in the audience laugh from the beginning to the end of the play, i.e. almost all the time.

The flower of humour is used throughout the play, as the plot is suitably messy and surprises are thrown in front of the audience in such a way that you can’t avoid laughing.

Plates and glasses are broken at a breakneck pace and books are thrown from the shelf upstairs downstairs. We hear heated exchanges and furious shouts here and there.

The play moves forward like an express train, which only picks up its pace as the play progresses. The result is a staggeringly fun performance that you can enjoy throughout the two-hour duration.

A man wants a divorce, but doesn’t want to take the initiative

The main role of the play, which will be performed at the Helsinki City Theatre’s Studio Pasila, is played by Jarkko Niemi, who is known for his many television roles. He plays Paul, who is tired of his wife (Elina Hietala) after living with her for about four months.

He wants to divorce, but he doesn’t want to bring up the divorce himself. He hopes that his wife Sofia will be the one to divorce.

Pauli decides that the best way to get a divorce is to take his best friend Martin (Olli Rahkonen) to live with them for a while. There is a suitable reason for the move: Martin’s mother has reportedly just died in a tragic truck accident, and Martin is now unable to be alone, but needs Paul’s support in his grief.

At first, Martin is reluctant to Paul’s plan and does not know how to behave in front of Sofia as his mother should be. Pauli orders that Martin must be grumpy and angry with Sofia, make a mess and go on a rampage, and even knock down Sofia’s beloved books.

However, the situation is not progressing as Pauli would like. Sofia seems to accept everything from Martin. The change from the initial positive behavior to rage doesn’t seem to cause Sofia to have any intention of leaving.

To make matters worse, Sofia and Martin find themselves interested in each other. That’s when Pauli decides.

Martin has a will of his own

All three actors in the play, Jarkko Niemi, Elina Hietala and Olli Rahkonen, seem to work as such a good team that it is difficult to praise anyone individually.

I admire Jarkko Niemi’s use of voice and strong expression and expressiveness. He embodies the role of Paul brilliantly as a rather short-sighted and undeveloped man.

Olli Rahkonen plays the glorious role of Martin. At first, she submits to Paul’s will as a kind hustler, but eventually she has a will of her own. Rahkonen has absolutely delicious expressions throughout the play.

Elina Hietala as Sofia plays a brilliant first cheated common-law wife, who finds the right skill of detachment after the truth is revealed.

The threesome offers the funniest thing of the autumn.
