What kind of movement is giggling, giggling, squeaking, giggling or roaring laughter? “Dear child” has many names and reasons.

Neljä keltaisiin kokovartalopukuihin pukeutunutta henkilöä nostaa siniseen mekkoon pukeutunutta naista, jonka käsi on ojennettuna, keltaista taustaa vasten teatteri- tai tanssiesityksessä.

Kaksi paljasjalkaista, rennosti pukeutunutta tanssijaa tekee ilmeikkäitä liikkeitä kirkkaan keltaisella lavalla, kun taustalla istuva nainen tarkkailee heidän esitystään.

Neljä ihmistä hyppii ja tasapainoilee tarmokkaasti suurilla pyöreillä tyynyillä keltaisella lavalla, ja taustalla on abstraktia rekvisiittaa ja kaiutin.

Kuusi ihmistä keltaisissa kokokuvapuvuissa on vuorovaikutuksessa suuren, pyöreän, vihreän esineen kanssa keltaisella näyttämöllä luoden abstraktin, surrealistisen kohtauksen dramaattisessa valaistuksessa.

Siniseen paitaan ja mustiin housuihin pukeutunut paljasjalkainen mies tanssii dynaamisessa tanssipoosissa keltaisella lavalla, kun taustalla seisoo keltaiseen bodyyn pukeutunut henkilö.

Kuviomekkoon pukeutunut paljasjalkainen nainen tanssii keltaisella näyttämöllä, kun taas keltaisiin kokovartalopukuihin pukeutuneet ihmiset liikuttavat suurta sinistä palloa taustalla.

Paljasjalkainen tanssija, jolla on kuvioitu sininen mekko, poseeraa keltaisella lavalla ilmeikkäästi, toinen käsi koholla ja toinen taivutettuna. Taustalla hämärässä valaistuksessa seisoo beigeen bodyyn pukeutunut hahmo.

Mies, jolla on puvun takki, raidallinen solmio ja kirkkaansiniset housut, seisoo nauraen kädet polvillaan. Hänen takanaan näkyy suuri sininen megafoni tummaa taustaa vasten.

Neljä pukuihin pukeutunutta paljasjalkaista ihmistä esittää ilmeikkäitä tanssiasentoja lämpimässä, keltaisessa näyttämövalaistuksessa. Kolme seisoo tai liikkuu tarmokkaasti, kun taas yksi istuu oikealla ja katselee muita. Tausta on minimalistinen ja oranssin sävyinen.

Ryhmä ihmisiä, joilla on keltaiset kokovartalopuvut ja peitetyt kasvot, poseeraa erilaisissa dynaamisissa asennoissa keltaisella näyttämöllä, jossa on dramaattinen valaistus.

Siniseen mekkoon pukeutunut nainen seisoo keltaisella näyttämöllä ja katselee neljää keltaisiin kokovartalopukuihin pukeutunutta hahmoa, joilla on mustat hanskat ja kasvosuojukset ja jotka poseeraavat ja ovat vuorovaikutuksessa hänen edessään.

Kuusi ihmistä tanssii keltaisella lattialla seisoen yhdellä jalalla ja kädet nostettuina ja taivutettuina. Heillä on värikkäät, puoliviralliset vaatteet, ja he asettuvat ympyrään, kasvot ulospäin. Tausta on tumma.

Vaaleaan pukuun ja solmioon pukeutunut mies seisoo näyttämön keskellä ja tekee ilmeikkäitä ilmeitä ja eleitä. Hänen takanaan keltaisella lattialla istuu kaksi muuta pukumiestä, joiden kaiuttimet näkyvät hämärässä taustalla.

Mustaan pukuun ja suureen hattuun pukeutunut henkilö seisoo keltaisella lavalla ja heittää varjon. Kaksi keltaisiin bodyihin pukeutunutta hahmoa istuu lattialla kaiuttimen vieressä, ja taustalla on musta pallo. Kohtaus on dramaattisesti valaistu.

Pukuun ja keilahattuun pukeutunut henkilö tanssii paljain jaloin elinvoimaisen keltaisella lattialla ja heittää suuren varjon. Kaksi keltaisiin bodyihin pukeutunutta hahmoa istuu kaiuttimen ääressä taustalla keltaista ja mustaa taustaa vasten.

Tummaan pukuun ja leveälieriseen hattuun pukeutunut henkilö polvistuu kirkkaan keltaiselle lattialle ja ojentaa yhden kätensä dramaattisesti eteenpäin varjoa heittäen. Taustalla on abstrakteja, tummia muotoja.

Laughter circulates Watching others laugh can be embarrassing or liberating. If you get to join in with the other person’s bubbly giggles, the joy of togetherness can be created. If not, the gap between people widens. Helsinki Dance Company and Karttunen Kollektiv’s 100 Ways to Laugh performance moves in just this kind of terrain of laughter and laughter. The choreography of Jyrki Karttunen , who will start as HDC’s artistic director, moves in an exciting atmosphere that could be described as saturated with serious laughter. Of course, the performance is built on a lot of humour, but it explores the mechanisms related to laughter just as much. And especially how different ways of laughing can be turned into movement.

Laughter is contagious from the dancer to the viewer The title of choreographer Jyrki Karttunen’s new work, 100 Ways to Laugh, already tells us what the new dance company of the Helsinki City Theatre is all about. And yes, there is laughter during the performance, both on stage and in the audience. But despite the topic, the mood is wistful in many places, sometimes even melancholy. The dance group of the City of Helsinki fills the Elsa stage with Karttunen’s light and airy dance. The dancers move in the sunny yellow space, overlapping and overlapping. The group’s fast-paced dances are punctuated by solo scenes that test laughter in the body. Karttunen will start as the director of the Helsinki City Theatre’s dance company at the beginning of next year. This autumn, she has been able to get to know the group while working on this work. The eight dancers dancing in the work have adopted Karttunen’s loose movement language wonderfully, the entire yellow stage sounds to the rhythm of their dance. The light movement brings to mind scenes from old films. The group could be, for example, the young radicals from the Inspector Palmu films. Full of relaxed, mockery where the rules are not bowed to. Still, men wear jackets, collared shirts and ties, women wear skinny pants from the 1960s or cute dresses. Karoliina Koiso-Kanttila’s costumes from the past add a subtle touch to the atmosphere. The music is also nostalgic and sets the mood for longing. Composer Tuomas Fränti has designed a soundscape that includes songs from Tchaikovsky and Charlie Chaplin . Fränti’s own compositions complete the world seamlessly. Laughter may start with fake laughter, but when someone giggles long enough, soon others will laugh too. The laughter is contagious from the stage to the audience. Laughter can start from the leg or hand or in the middle of the dancer’s body. The young Aksinja Lommi , who is visiting the group, carries laughter from one limb to another and back again in a frantic vibration solo. The laughter swirls in your body until it bursts out of your mouth. The dancers transform into funny and endearing romps when they put on yellow, hooded overalls. There is a black cloth on the face, so the creatures could be from Mars, for example. The möntis seem to be an evolution of Karttunen’s solo My imaginary friend is with me, in which Karttunen performed together with human-sized, white soft toys. They may also be related to the Teletaps, both wonder at the strangeness of the world and often walk a little clumsily. You can laugh at the bugs without inhibition. But they are also skillful, their circus-like slapstick scene is one of the gems of the work. It is interesting to see in which direction Karttunen will take this skilled group as its leader. The versatile choreographer is skilled in creating works based purely on movement as well as theatrical performances. His predecessors Kenneth Kvarnström and Nigel Charnock , who passed away in August, represented almost the extremes of contemporary dance, but one can expect Karttunen to open up in many directions.

Stretching the cheek muscles Helsinki Dance Company’s 100 Ways to Laugh offers joy therapy for dark autumn evenings. 100 Ways to Laugh is a rather detached work, which is held together mainly by the amusement of its parts. The unevenness is unfortunate in the sense that at its best the work is a brilliantly intense and attention-grabbing, comprehensive cultural experience, but this intensity does not carry through the work.Choreographer Jyrki Karttunen has created a very scene-like work that draws influences from silent films, comics and the surrounding world. The work also marches almost all possible types of laughter onto the stage and helps to hunt down lost laughing nerves. 100 Ways to Laugh focuses primarily on making people laugh. And it can be done, if the resounding giggles, gaggles and giggles serve as a measure while watching.The scene drawn from silent film and the yellow characters’ frolicking on stage are laughter therapy at its best, mainly 100 Ways to Laugh keeps your cheek muscles active. Dancing to the StrawJyrki Karttunen is crazy. But lovely. His new show 100 Ways to Laugh is something everyone must see. It starts with a jerk at the end of the toe, continues as a shake in the thigh, buttocks, torso and all the way to the fingertips. Eventually, every muscle trembles in the whole face and the earlobes flutter. There is no stopping it. Laughter erupts. Kai Lähdesmäki laughs and it rubs off on the whole audience.How does laughter result in movement and dance? This is the main theme of Jyrki Karttunen’s new work 100 Ways to Laugh for the Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company. 23 years ago, Karttunen herself made her debut as a dancer in the same building in the work Ballet Pathétique by the then artistic director Jorma Uotinen. After the turn of the year, Karttunen will take over the management himself.I have to admit that I had my doubts about the theme. Trying to be funny is not easy. The first ten minutes of farting in unison brings to mind a Kappahl commercial from the 90s. But then the show grows with a series of fantastic individual performances.
