In a work written by Giovanni Boccaccio in the 14th century, ten young people flee the Black Death, or plague, from the city of Florence to the countryside. To entertain each other, they tell funny stories, often about love and eroticism – things that take your mind as far away from death as possible.
The Renaissance classic Decamerone has only been performed on stage in Finland a few times before. Now it feels particularly topical.
Helsinki City Theatre and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki have started a collaboration that brings acting students to Studio Pasila every spring.

“Boccaccio’s excesses and his detachment from the moral concepts of this time feels fresh in this context and with this particular group, even though at the same time it is a matter of life and death.” – Akse Pettersson
