Ester Nilsson is a sensible person in a sensible relationship. She is in control, she knows what she wants and she is training purposefully for the next marathon. When she meets the artist Hugo Rask and is seduced by him, she is struck by a crush that causes her to lose her footing. She wants to understand why he seduced her if he doesn’t love her and wants to live his life with her? And if he once made love to her, doesn’t he have a responsibility to at least answer her questions?
Karin Parrot Jonzon’s playful dramatization of Arbitrary Procedure is as revealing, perceptive and self-ironic as Lena Andersson’s award-winning novel. Linda Zilliacus plays Ester Nilsson, who has become one of the iconic characters of the 10th century. She is a modern, independent and strong woman who refuses to be a victim or feel guilty, but who, against her better judgment, allows herself to be driven by her obsession – and is thrown into a drama of passion and power, of freedom and reason.
