The new play, which had its world premiere in Paris in the spring of 2014, strikes directly at the heart of our existence.
The Crime of Einstein is a new play by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, which had its world premiere in the spring of 2014 in Paris. The events of the play take place on a lake in New Jersey, where two men meet by chance and become friends. One of them is the well-known genius, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein, and the other is a homeless tramp who has been excluded from society. Albert Einstein, a Jew, has fled from Germany to the United States after the Nazis came to power and, as a representative of the entire scientific community, feels obliged to warn the United States about the Nazis’ nuclear weapons program. He wants to prevent Hitler’s actions, but at the same time he contributes to the development of the nuclear arms race of the United States and, unwittingly, to its horrific consequences.
