HOPEASIJA
The space echoes with memories of a grandparent, while on the screen a parent draws because there is no longer any other way to communicate. What happens to self-expression when Alzheimer’s completely transforms a person’s personality? If we aim for silver rather than gold, could our competition-driven society become more equal? How is beauty created, with what resources and on whose terms?
The work is installed in a private apartment in Tripla shopping centre. Each audience member books a 30-minute visit. The installation can accommodate four visitors at a time.
Hopeasija follows the acclaimed Hopeakulttuuri radio essay, in which Biitsi explored Finland’s ageing population and the senior culture of the future.
Biitsi is an artist duo founded by Heidi and Kaino Wennerstrand in 2015. Biitsi creates performances, music and artworks. They have collaborated with artists and organisations including Pykäri, Azar Saiyar and Frame Finland. Alongside her artistic practice, Heidi is studying in the field of therapy. Kaino received the State Prize for Media Art in 2021.

Free admission, but a ticket is required.
Nykyesityksen näyttämö is a pilot project presented at Studio Pasila in 2022 and 2023, bringing different forms of contemporary performance into Helsinki City Theatre’s programme. Nykyesityksen näyttämö encompasses both visiting performances and stage residencies dedicated to developing and creating new premieres.

SILVER MEDAL
The space echoes with memories of a grandparent. On a screen they are drawing, as any other means of communication no longer exist. How do you express yourself when Alzheimer’s disease is changing you to the core? If we don’t reach for gold but for silver, will our society, overheated by competition, become more equal? How does beauty get made, by whom and on whose terms?
The work is situated in a private apartment within Tripla shopping mall. Each audience member will book a visiting time of maximum 30 minutes. The installation can take in four visitors at a time.
Silver Medal is a continuation of the acclaimed radio essay Silver Epoch, in which Biitsi deals with aging Finland and the senior culture of the future. The essay is in Finnish with an English translation available on Biitsi’s home page.

Stage for Contemporary Performance is a pilot project implemented in Studio Pasila during 2022 and 2023. The objective of the project is to include different forms of contemporary performance in the Helsinki City Theatre’s seasonal programme. The activities of the Stage for Contemporary Performance are divided into two parts: a programme of visiting performances and premieres which are created during residency periods.
