Through warm humour, a description of how absurd everyday life is when you have to start every day with a clean slate.
The elderly Arne (Jari Pehkonen) still lives in his own home, but his memory has begun to falter. Daughter Anne (Vuokko Hovatta) visits her father every day and hires a nanny to help her – but Arne finds it hard to understand why he needs a nanny when his head is as sharp as a razor! Besides, it feels difficult to get to know a new nurse every day. So, should the father move in with the daughter and her husband? Or is it that the daughter is divorced and now lives with a completely different man… Whose home is this, Anne’s or Arne’s? And where is the other daughter, the nicer one, or does he just have this one daughter? Florian Zeller’s play The Father (Le père 2012) skilfully and with warm humour tells how absurd everyday life can become if you have to start every day with a clean slate. The Father is the Finnish premiere of the play.
