Karpolla on asiaa is based on true stories featured in episodes of the television series of the same name. Karpo’s programmes put ordinary Finnish people centre stage: their stories, experiences and destinies. The conflicts life brings are neither feared nor avoided – they are brought out into the open. Straight talk, with all our hearts.

 

Hannu Karpo (b. 1942) is one of the best-known figures in Finnish television journalism. His unique and extensive life’s work has introduced Finnish television audiences to an extraordinary range of remarkable human destinies. Through Karpo’s programmes, a candid, direct and deeply emotional connection emerges with Finnish ways of life and the Finnish state of mind.

Karpolla on asiaa is Professor of Acting Kristian Smeds’ first artistic directing project at the Theatre Academy. The production brings eight master’s-level acting students from the Theatre Academy to the stage, carrying with them the honest ethos of Hannu Karpo’s documentary world, its colourful characters and their distinctive energy.

The production is co-produced by the Theatre Academy of Uniarts Helsinki and Kotka City Theatre.
