Kuningatarnäytelmä tells the story of Christina, Queen of Sweden from 1632 to 1654. Jussi Moila is the writer and Sini Pesonen the director of this historical contemporary drama, whose themes of power, gender and love resonate strongly with the world today.

The young Christina faces immense expectations. She is a girl being raised to be king. A woman expected to secure the royal dynasty by marrying and producing an heir. A monarch who must serve as the figurehead and leader of her war-ravaged nation.

But Christina wants something entirely different.

She wants to transform dark and uncultured Sweden into a beacon of science and art—a European realm of freedom and enlightenment.

And Christina wants her lady-in-waiting, Belle.
