Helsinki, 1975. Tova Randers, an ordinary single mother of two, is walking down Fredrikinkatu on her way home from her job at the city library. It is a balmy late-summer evening, and Tova is turning forty, so she decides to mark the occasion simply, with a steak and a glass of red wine. At Vanha Maestro restaurant, she meets Martti Wester, who invites her home. The evening ends with Martti raping Tova.

But Tova refuses to become a rape victim. She wants revenge. The only question is how.

For the first time, Märta Tikkanen’s cult novel is being staged in Finland. When Män kan inte våldtas was published in 1975, it sparked heated debate, and Märta Tikkanen faced hatred and threats. Today, Tikkanen’s “sleazy shock novel” is an international classic.
