17 May is Norway’s national day, celebrated by Norwegians and people of Norwegian descent around the world. Norge på Lillan is a musical performance featuring gems from Norway’s rich popular music tradition.

Together with musicians Martin Segerstråle, Niklas Nylund and Guido Jäger, Emma Klingenberg and Henrik Huldén present a performance of Norwegian songs translated into Swedish by Henrik Huldén. The programme includes songs by Lillebjørn Nilsen, Mari Boine, Jan Eggum, Kari Bremnes, Øyvind Sund and others.

Performers:

Emma Klingenberg is an actor and singer. Born in Jakobstad, she trained in musical theatre at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg. Her leading roles include Stormskärs Maja at ÅST in 2015–2016 and Edith Piaf in 2017–2018. Emma also performed in “Ingvar!” at Svenska Teatern in 2016–2017 and in Chelsea Hotel at Teater Viirus in 2018–2019. She is currently cataloguing Tove Jansson’s song catalogue.

Henrik Huldén is a singer and poet who works with Nordic cooperation at Hanaholmen. Henrik performs throughout the Nordic countries and has published children’s books, poetry collections and biographies, as well as two albums of songs and more than 750 topical verses in Hufvudstadsbladet under the pen name Gromit. He wrote the song lyrics for Lilla Teatern’s 2017 production ”Det ordnar sig, Sapiens”.

Martin Segerstråle is a pianist, conductor, arranger and composer who trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy and has studied musicology at Åbo Akademi University. Martin was musical director for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ”Cats” in Tampere in 2017–2018, and this autumn he will conduct the orchestra for the Finnish premiere of the Disney musical ”Ringaren i Notre Dame”. He was musical director for Patrick Wingren and Lars Sund’s musical ”Natten är ännu ung” in Jakobstad in 2015. Martin has conducted the student choir Brahe Djäknar in Turku and is a sought-after accompanist.

Niklas Nylund is a guitarist, drummer and music producer based in Porvoo. He has produced music with most Finnish artists and has also overseen the music for MGP, Svenska YLE’s children’s production. Niklas has been a member of Gösta Sundqvist’s band Leavings since the 1980s and is now the band’s musical director. He was also the producer of the band Hans On the Bass.

Guido Jäger is a bassist and composer based in Hamburg who spends his summers in Houtskär with his Finnish wife. He trained in Lübeck, tours throughout Europe and performs everything from classical music to klezmer, songs and jazz. Guido has played with artists including Tom Waits, Giora Feidman and Richard Galliano, and through his collaboration with Henrik Huldén, he also performed at the memorial concerts for Lars Huldén in 2017.
