Prinsessa Ruusunen – Paluu tulevaisuuteen

The story of Sleeping Beauty takes on new dimensions when the princess in the classic fairy tale is a modern-day teenager with the growing pains of puberty. And to make the story even more wonderful, he doesn’t sleep a hundred years ahead, but wakes up in the raucous 1970s when his own parents’ teenage adventures are at their hottest.
ShedHelsinki’s musical version of Sleeping Beauty mixes classic fairy tales and traditional youth musicals set in the school world in an unprecedented way. Sleeping Beauty – A Return to the Future is based on the original script by Chickenshed Theatre (UK). It is implemented by the teachers of StepUp School’s Skene Musical Theatre School under the guidance of director Marco Bjurström. The conductor of the performances is Tuomas Kesälä.
“Like our role model Chickenshed Theatre in London, we want to show that the stage belongs to everyone: The cast consists of a large group of diverse, bold “self-sufficiency”. The musical features approximately 150 children and young people aged 7–20 from the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, complemented by musical theatre professionals and students. Some of the performers are reeling around in wheelchairs, some are on a big stage for the first time in their lives, and some have been familiar with theatre for a long time – despite that and that’s why we are a whole Shed family and happy about it!”
