A celebration of cheerful, fast-paced music and beautiful ballads, which captivates viewers of all ages with its humour and warmth
Combining the most famous fairy tales in a charming way, this romantic musical comedy for the whole family is an irresistible story of friendship, love and acceptance of difference. The large, green, lonely swamp giant Shrek, despite his frightening appearance, is a peace-loving creature. Accompanied by a chattering donkey, he bravely sets out to rescue the beautiful princess Fiona, and fight the miniature, fairy-tale-hating despotic despot. The successful musical is a celebration of joyful and fast-paced music and beautiful ballads, which captivates viewers of all ages with its humour and warmth. The fairy tale about Shrek was written by author William Steig. The computer animation made from it received the first-ever Academy Award for Computer Animation in 2002. It was made into a successful musical on Broadway in 2008, after which it has captivated musical theatre lovers around the world. Shrek comes from the German word “schreck”, which means scary. However, the ugly, green, lonely swamp Shrek is not scary despite his appearance, but a man who loves peace and idleness. The peaceful life is interrupted when several well-known fairy-tale characters, such as Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs and the Donkey, are forced to flee to the swamp. Behind the escape is Lord Farquaad, who hates fairy tales and all beauty. Shrek must go to Farquaad, but life changes forever when he falls in love with Fiona. However, Shrek must fight against the evil lord who has chosen Fiona as his wife. Without revealing the plot twists and turns, all real fairy tales have a happy ending. So did Shrek.
