Meri Valkama’s sensational debut novel Sinun, Margot (2021) won the hearts of critics and readers alike and was immediately hailed as a landmark work of Finnish literature. Responding to numerous requests from readers and theatregoers, Helsinki City Theatre created a magnificent stage adaptation of the bestselling novel for the Main Stage, directed by Riikka Oksanen.

Vilja Siltanen’s father, Markus, has just died. In his flat, she discovers a bundle of letters from a woman named Margot. Vilja’s mother refuses to say anything about them, so Vilja must return to Berlin to find out who sent them.

Vilja grew up in the GDR, where her father worked as a foreign correspondent in the early 1980s. The family regarded East Germany as an ideal state. Then the Berlin Wall fell, and their family happiness fell apart. Why? And who is Margot, the woman behind the letters?

Sinun, Margot expands from the story of an individual and a family into a sweeping thriller that examines an entire era. This gripping drama explores urgent contemporary questions in an exceptional way: can remembering the past help us understand the present?

Jussi Award winner Satu Tuuli Karhu stars as Vilja. Sara Soulié, known for her film and television roles, shines as Margot. Vilja’s father Markus is played by Martin Bahne, who has impressed audiences in numerous films, while the magnificent Sanna-June Hyde plays Vilja’s mother Rosa.
