Meri Valkama’s sensational debut novel Sinun, Margot (2021) melted the hearts of critics and readers and became a landmark work of Finnish literature as soon as it was published. The Helsinki City Theatre responded to the numerous requests of readers and viewers by preparing a wonderful theatre version for the big stage based on the best-selling novel directed by Riikka Oksanen.

Vilja Siltanen’s father, Markus, has just died. In his apartment, a bundle of letters from a woman named Margot is found. Vilja’s mother refuses to say anything about the letters, so Vilja has to travel back to Berlin to find out who the letters are from.

Vilja grew up in the GDR, where her father worked as a foreign correspondent in the early 1980s. The family considered East Germany to be the ideal state. Then the Berlin Wall came down and the family’s happiness was shattered. Why? And who exactly is the Margot of the letters?

Yours, Margot expands from the story of an individual and a family into a grand suspense play that examines an entire era. The gripping drama manages to reflect on topical questions in an exceptional way: Can remembering the past help us understand the present?

The role of Vilja will be played by Jussi Award-winning Satu Tuuli Karhu. Sara Soulié, known from film and television, shines as Margot. Vilja’s father Markus is played by Martin Bahne , who has made an impression in several films, and Vilja’s mother Rosa is played by the wonderful Sanna-June Hyde.
