Rhymed anarchy Theatre director Katja Krohn received recently received an award from the Association of Finnish Theatres for the last season of performances. Best Finnish Film Performed in a Professional Theatre premiere. The award-winning Big Bad Wolf was performed at the Kajaani At the City Theatre. Now the Helsinki Krohn’s new children’s play Sotta can be seen at the City Theatre Pyttynen. The 40-minute segment directed by Krohn himself The novelty is an absolutely incomparable case. It tells the story of four-year-old Iiro’s sleepover with grandpa . Grandpa, the title character of the play, Sotta Pyttynen, lives up to his name, untidy single person who rejects all rules, whose lifestyle is an abomination to Iiro, who had lived in discipline and rebuke. The play reverses the traditional tradition of fairy tales relationship between children and parents: an anarchist who does not care about agreements is adult. Iiro gets to teach grandpa everyday routines of eating, sleeping and from going to the toilet. Grandpa is so far away from everyone that his worldview is great for a well-bred four-year-old shock. So the beginning is spent wondering and getting used to, but at the end There is harmony in coexistence. Panu Vauhkonen is a giant four-year-old that reaches almost to the ceiling of a small stage, and It is. A big man is clever at the gestures and expressions of a small child. Known for his clowning skills Jyrki Nousiainen is slouching and letting loose as a grandpa in a funny way, by making ignorance and original habits a virtue. Cutlery no need, the bed is just a storage place, there is never a sleeping Never heard of it. Markus R. Packalen’s colourful and slanted set design in the colour of flashy candies supports the directing’s farcically exaggerated approach well. Like a cherry on a sweet tasting cake Katja Krohn has written numerous lines to the rhyme that Nousiainen and Vauhkonen in a fun and smooth manner. And so as not to distance yourself too much far from the reality of four-year-olds, there is no fart humor either forgotten.

Children cannot be fooled as an audience.Sotta Pyttynen, which will be performed at the Helsinki City Theatre, meets these requirements. Katja Krohn has made a light-hearted, anarchist and at the same time funny and dramatic play about a grandfather who is just rubbish and a grandson who has been raised by anything but a messy mother.Sotta Pyttynen is played by Jyrki Nousiainen and Iiro Pyttynen by Panu Vauhkonen. Both are doing a great job. When the conversations are partly rhymed and the text is flashy, it is not a simple thing to convey it to such a young audience. The performance works well, as they have invested in properly painted backdrops, light and sound effects, and completed direction. The drama of the performance grows from the clear awareness that tenderness and love can solve almost everything. Because what else is mess and confusion but a different order. That’s a line that sums up the message of the performanceHufvudstadsbladet 19.3.2003 Karmela Belinkitranslated by Katja Krohn.
