Tuula and Pirkko visit Studio Pasila!
Tuula and Pirkko are a virile, 170-year-old couple from Ala-Vittula. They don’t really like each other much, but for some unknown reason, they have spent their whole lives very closely together. Contrary to what is perhaps commonly thought about the elderly, age has not refined them in a serene direction. On the contrary. Tuula loves Cindy Crawford and social distancing, Pirkko doesn’t appreciate her grandchildren’s pottery or drawings, and she still doesn’t know how to bake. Due to their difficult nature, Tuula and Pirkko have been left alone during the corona quarantine a long time ago, and therefore they have all the time in the world to live their lives exactly as they want.
After a series of coincidences, Tuula and Pirkko decide to shake off the dust from their suitcases, head to Finavia’s ticket office, pay their flight taxes perhaps for the last time and head towards the sunny Costa of Fuengirola. And in no time at all,
In Toro’s shadow, perhaps the most important conversations of his life so far take place. On this journey, Tuula and Pirkko’s daughters’ ossified attitudes towards their mothers as well as the patriarchal macho culture will be explored. Is there romance, a yacht or Sean Connery’s chest hair on Fuge beach?
The performance is a tribute to silliness, joie de vivre, free will, stream of consciousness, self-sufficiency, stupid things, dreams, humanity, the species-typical human need to conquer unknown territories and the importance of self-determination.
