The all-time classic, which Anton Chekhov himself classifies as a comedy, is one of his best-known and most beloved plays.
Uncle Vanya, which Anton Chekhov himself classifies as a comedy, is one of his best-known and most beloved plays. Vanya has stayed behind to take care of the condition of her deceased sister and her professor husband. The professor, admired by Vanya but who has created an inefficient career, returns to the farm with his beautiful young wife with the intention of selling the farm. The play is a classic of wasted life, with themes of idleness, sacrifice and unattainable dreams. The internationally renowned Chekhov director Tamas Ascher has directed Uncle Vanya for the Sydney Theatre Company before the City Theatre, which successfully visited e.g. Washington and New York. On the stage of the City Theatre, the dream team of Finnish performing arts will be seen.
