Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin’s Spanish-Romani-Jewish-Finnish flamenco orchestra and Helsinki City Theatre’s dance company invite you to Veren häät.

Veren häät is contemporary dance and flamenco at their most profound, voiced through the words of Spain’s national poet Federico García Lorca. Veren häät embodies our marriage to excess and self-deception, rampant consumption and indifference. It is an autopsy of the humanity of animals and the animality of humans.

Avant-garde artists such as Lorca, Dalí and Buñuel lived in Europe at a time when poetry was a weapon and artists were persecuted. Together, they created surrealist art whose imagery crystallised the spirit of the age and foreshadowed the coming global conflagration. Dalí and Buñuel fled, while Lorca was executed in the prelude to the Spanish Civil War. Veren häät is dedicated to those artists who charge headlong at the bull’s horns.
