Kaksi värikkäisiin, omituisiin pukuihin pukeutunutta miestä on leikkisässä vuorovaikutuksessa keskenään; toinen istuu ristissä ja koskettaa toisen nenää, joka polvistuu ja hymyilee, kun hänellä on silmälasit ja liehuva hattu. Pystyraidallinen tausta viittaa näyttämökohtaukseen.

Kaksi värikkäisiin pukuihin pukeutunutta miestä nykii sinisen pöydän vastakkaisia päitä maalaismaisessa, lämpimästi valaistussa huoneessa, jossa on puulattiat ja -seinät. Toisella miehellä on vihreät housut ja lippalakki, toisella luppahattu ja liivi.

Lavalla esiintyy kaksi teatteripukuista miestä; toisella on raidallinen paita, vihreät housunkannattimet ja leikkisät kasvot, kun taas toisella on silmälasit, hattu ja liivit ja hän näyttää yllättyneeltä. Taustalla on puupaneelit.

Kaksi teatteriasuihin pukeutunutta miestä istuu lähekkäin tuoleilla puisella näyttämöllä. Toisella on silmälasit, hattu ja ruudulliset tossut, ja hän katsoo eteenpäin, kun taas toinen, raidallisiin vaatteisiin pukeutunut, kumartuu sisäänpäin ja tekee eleitä korvansa lähellä.

Lavalla on kaksi miestä värikkäissä, omituisissa puvuissa; toinen mies hymyilee ja pitää toista sylissään. Taustalla on puisia lamelleja, ja lähellä on sininen pöytä.

Kaksi leikkisästi pukeutunutta miestä poseeraa sisätiloissa; toinen seisoo jakkaralla vihreissä haalareissa ja raidallisessa paidassa, kun taas toinen istuu sinisellä tuolilla liivi, hattu ja silmälasit yllään. Tausta on puinen ja lämpimästi valaistu.

Kaksi värikkäisiin asuihin pukeutunutta miestä istuu jakkaroilla sisätiloissa. Toisella on vihreä hattu, raidallinen paita ja vihreä haalari; toisella on silmälasit, ruskehtava hattu ja liivi. He hymyilevät ikkunan vieressä viihtyisässä, maalaismaisessa ympäristössä.

VIIRU AND PESONEN GO ON ADVENTURES AT THE CITY THEATREThe performances of the Helsinki City Theatre’s Family Theatre continue with the play Viiru ja Pesonen Viiru katoissa (Viiru and Pesonen Missing in the Missing Circle) for kindergarten and primary school children in the foyer of a small stage. The director of the play, Peter Engkvist , is internationally known and one of Sweden’s most famous theatre personalities. In Kallio-Lehti, the performance is reviewed by Tuomas (6 years) and Jaakko (3 years), who fit the play’s target group appropriately.Ukko Pesonen lives in the countryside in a small house with his chickens. He has not been able to get a hostess, and even though a few talkative neighbours stop by from time to time, something seems to be missing. One day, Mrs. Anttonen brings him a squeaky box with a little cat named Viiru inside. She gets an absolutely wonderful cat! Someone who understands Pesonen’s speech and can speak himself. There is no longer a lonely and quiet moment in Pesonen’s house – except when Viiru disappears.

VIIRU AND PESONEN CHARM BOTH YOUNG AND OLDIt is not without problems to make a play based on any well-known children’s book, and especially not a picture book. On the other hand, it’s easy, as the framework for the visuals, characters and plot is there. On the other hand, it requires the ability to find something unique and new within these frameworks, so that the performance does not become a mere repetition of the book. Peter Engkvist is one of Sweden’s most famous theatre personalities, specialising in physical and mime theatre. His directing for both adults and children has received numerous awards around the world, and Teater Pero, which he conducts, has visited the Tampere Theatre Festival four times.Engkvist has previously visited the Helsinki City Theatre to direct the fairy tales The Boy and the Star and The Lost Pihlaja. This time, he has tackled Sven Nordqvist’s beloved characters Viiru the Cat and Ukko Pesonen, as well as the book Viiru katoissa.Nordqvist’s Viiru ja Pesonen books have a warm-hearted, old-fashioned rural atmosphere and small everyday incidents that seem to stealthily tell about very big things, above all about friendship and caring. The story of Viiru Missing tells how Viiru arrived at Pesonen’s house and what happened when the little kitten went to explore the world outside the cottage door for the first time. Avoiding copying the bookBR> Elina Kolehmainen has created a recognizable Peso milieu in the foyer of the theatre’s small stage, but it is not a one-to-one copy of a picture book. The brown and green-toned set design and costumes are just far enough from realism to create a fairytale-like atmosphere.Engkvist does not directly copy the picture book in his direction either, but the story of the performance has been shaped based on it and the rehearsals done together with the actors.The most challenging and rewarding thing for the viewer is how two actors, with their mimicry and physical expression, create a whole spectrum of different characters on stage, from mysterious mugs to Mrs. Anttonen. As Pesonen and Viiru himself, Pekka Huotari and Sami Hokkanen are sympathetic and warm-hearted. The contact between them works brilliantly both as actors and characters. And in this same context, they naturally involve the audience as well. Viiru kaissa is a skilful theatre session with a touch of humour, where the small is big and the tempo of the events is just right, so that even the smallest children can join in, but even the older ones do not get bored.

HIP HOP, PESONEN IS POP! In the foyer of the City Theatre The old man and the cat warm my heartWho with a family doesn’t know the children’s books by the Swedish author Sven Nordqvist , in which old man Pesonen and his talking cat Viiru adventure. The old man and the cat, it’s almost a classic.The combination of a slightly grumpy reclusive dude and a curious child-like animal has resulted in many funny and warm stories, with skilful illustrations that charm with humorous insights and an abundance of details.
