We are committed to the Theatre Green Book, a framework developed in the UK to guide theatres towards more sustainable practices. We aim to meet the Theatre Green Book’s Basic standard in all our new productions. The Basic standard is our first milestone on the journey towards lower carbon emissions and more sustainable theatre-making.
Targets of the Theatre Green Book’s Basic standard
At least 50% of the materials used in a production are reused or made from recycled materials. This applies to sets, props and costumes.
After the production, at least 65% of the materials are reused or recycled.
We avoid harmful and environmentally damaging materials.
We use technical systems sustainably.
We reduce unnecessary travel and transport.
The Theatre Green Book is a shared framework that helps all theatres operate more sustainably. It provides a common approach to sustainable theatre-making, as well as practical ways to consider environmental and social responsibility in theatres’ day-to-day work. Together with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and STEFI, HKT took the initiative to bring the Theatre Green Book to Finland and translate it into Finnish.
