On November 16, Sara Ehnholm Hielm’s award-winning satire Winter War – here we go again will premiere at Lilla Teatern. Despite its name, the play is not a depiction of war. By placing the leadership strategies of our time in a wartime dugout, Sara Ehnholm Hielm draws a sharp picture of a hundred-year-old Finland. She wrote the play as part of the play development project REKO, and it has previously been performed a few times at the Textfest festival at Viirus in 2015. After that production, the text received the Finland-Swedish Playwright Prize and the text was also nominated for the national Lea Prize. 

“Sara’s text is razor-sharp with a high recognition factor, and the satire hits the spot. When the new leadership trio tries to control the war by changing the organisation, finding new customer groups and maximising profits, we recognise the true nature of predatory capitalism,” says the show’s director Arn-Henrik Blomqvist.

“This is Lillan’s unofficial contribution to Finland’s centenary year. Sharp, topical and actually also touching, spiced with intelligent humour. And just in time for Little Christmas,” says Artistic Director Marina Meinander.

The Winter War – Here We Go Again is a one-act play that lasts just over an hour. On stage are Peter Kanerva, Linda Zilliacus, Kris Gummerus, Sanna Majuri, Joachim Wigelius, Pia Runnakko and Alex Holmlund. The set design is by Katarina Kirjavainen and the costumes by Elina Kolehmainen. The performance is subtitled in Swedish and Finnish.

The author places modern leadership strategies in a wartime dugout and at the same time draws a sharp picture of the hundred-year-old Finland.

Ehnholm Hielm wrote the play Vinterkriget – here we go again as part of the REKO work development programme, and it was performed a few times during the Textfest festival at Teatteri Viirus in 2015, after which the work received the Finnish-Swedish Playwright Award and was nominated for the Lea Prize.

“It’s easy to relate to Sara’s text. Satire hits and sinks. When the new leadership troika tries to lead the war through organizational change, the search for new customer groups and profit maximization, we recognize the true nature of exploitative capitalism,” says director Arn-Henrik Blomqvist.

Vinterkriget – here we go again is a performance that lasts just over an hour without an intermission.
