Lilla Teatern organises events about Tove Jansson’s comic art

Lilla Teatern’s performance Crisis and Disaster in Moominvalley has been enthusiastically received since its premiere in October. The play is based on Tove Jansson’s black-and-white Moomin comics from the 1950s, and on 19 November, Lilla Teatern offers the audience a deep dive into Jansson’s comic world.

Sides of Tove is an afternoon dedicated to Jansson’s comic art, which is illuminated from different points of view with the help of invited guests and conversations on stage. What did social satire look like when the comics were created, and how does it look today? What is it like to make theatre out of cartoons? What is it like to portray Tove in film, theatre and in audiobooks? And how intertwined is the history of Lilla Teatern and the Moomins really?

The event’s moderator Andrea Reuter will lead the conversations with director Jakob Höglund, actor Alma Pöysti, cartoonist and illustrator Ulla Donner, Ny Tid’s editor-in-chief Janne Wass, author Philip Teir, and British Tove Jansson expert and comics historian Paul Gravett. The programme also includes meetings with puppet drivers Reetta Moilanen, Elena Rekola and Riina Tikkanen from the play Moominvalley Crisis and Disaster.

Pages of Tovewill be held at Lilla Teatern, Yrjönkatu 30, on Saturday 19.11 at noon. 13-16 (incl. intermission). The event is free of charge, but requires advance registration via Lilla Teatern’s website.
