Moulin Rouge! The musical has already been seen by 118,000 spectators – in autumn 2025, new faces will also be seen on stage

Moulin Rouge! The musical has gone on a well-deserved summer vacation after 130 sold-out performances. The show will continue in the autumn, when both familiar and new faces will be seen on stage. The role of courtesan Satine will be continued by Jennie Storbacka with a wonderful voice, and the role of the bohemian young composer, Christian, will be played by the skilled Martti Manninen. The nightclub’s owner, Harold Zidler, is still being followed by the charismatic Risto Kaskilahti. Other roles include Tuukka Leppänen (Duke of Monroth), Markku Haussila (Santiago), Kai Lähdesmäki (Henri Toulouse-Lautrec), Laura Allonen (Nini), Niki Rautén (Baby Doll), Elssa Antikainen (La Chocolat) and Raili Raitala (Arabia).

New faces to the ensemble are also Wilhelm Blomberg, Paavo Kerosuo, Aksinja Lommi, Matti Myllyaho, Kalle Lähde, Mikko Paloniemi and Tiina Peltonen.

Written by John Logan, the musical is based on the Oscar-winning 2001 film Moulin Rouge!, directed by Baz Luhrmann. The musical, which charmed audiences and critics alike, premiered on Broadway in 2019. It has won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It includes more than 70 of the biggest hits in music history.

The work is part of a Nordic co-production involving Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The musical is directed by Anders Albien from Sweden and the assistant director is Kirsi Karlenius. The chief conductor is Eeva Kontu and her partner is Ville Myllykoski as conductor. The set design was designed by the internationally award-winning designer takis. The costumes are designed by Astrid Lynge Ottonen and the camouflage by Maija Sillanpää. The lighting design is by Palle Palmé and the sound design by Kai Poutanen. The choreography is by Jennie Widegren, Anja Gaardbo, Kirsty McDonald and Zain Odelstål. The musical has been translated into Finnish by Paavo Leppäkoski and the dramaturg has been Henna Piirto.

The musical is performed in Finnish. All performances will be subtitled in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Moulin Rouge! movie
Moulin Rouge!, directed by Baz Luhrmann and published by 20th Century Studios, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001. It won Best Musical or Comedy Film at the Golden Globes and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, of which it won two. Filmed in Sydney, Australia, the film Moulin Rouge! has been praised for reviving the film musical genre, and its soundtrack became an instant hit upon its release.
