The Royal Dramatic Theatre success Sufflören på Lillan / Swedish success brings the whisperer into the spotlight
In Sufflören , we get to meet a soufflé who has found her dream job and her perfect place in the world. He is one of the pillars of support, one of the invisible forces that helps others shine and he thrives best when he is needed the least. But when the soufflé unexpectedly finds himself in the spotlight, he takes the chance and invites his audience on a winding journey through his reality behind the scenes.
Andreas T Olsson (b. 1979) wrote the play as his degree project at the Theatre Academy in Stockholm and has performed it himself at the Royal Dramatic Theatre to full auditoriums since 2013. The performance has toured with Riksteatern and made a guest appearance at the Stanislavsky Festival in Moscow.
“When I wrote and performed The Sufflor seven years ago, I couldn’t dream that I would still be playing it and also getting to go out into the world every now and then and see other actors take on a role that resembles me more than I first understood. And if I may be allowed to whisper theatrically, I can say that I am especially looking forward to coming to the premiere in Helsinki. I have great respect for the strong comedy tradition at Lilla Teatern. I hope and believe that Sufflören will thrive there. Take my word for it,” says author Andreas T Olsson.
“This is a big theatre in a small format! The Sufflören is a declaration of love for the theatre and its great poets, it is a wonderfully multifaceted and well-written text that is both challenging and fun to play,” says actor Joachim Wigelius.
“Sufflören is a treat for anyone who loves theatre. It’s caustic, it’s reflective and it’s gripping, it’s a testimony, a love story and a heroic tale – with elements of education, stand-up and summer talk,” says Marina Meinander , who directs the performance.
The soundscape of Sufflören is by Antero Mansikka and the lighting designer is Ville Aaltonen.

Swedish success brings the whisperer into the spotlight in Lillan’s new play
Swedish Andreas T Olsson’s breakthrough play Sufflören (2012) will have its Finnish premiere at Lilla Teatern on 17 October, directed by Marina Meinander. Joachim Wigelius shines in the lead role in this warm-hearted comedy about a theatre whisperer. Author Olsson arrives in Finland for the premiere and can be reached on 17-18 October.
Sufflören tells the story of a theatre whisperer who has found his calling and his own place in the world. He is one of the pillars of theatre and the invisible forces that help others shine. In his own words, he has succeeded best when he is least needed. When the whisperer unexpectedly finds himself in the spotlight, he makes the most of the situation and offers the audience an amazing journey through life behind the scenes.
Andreas T Olsson (b. 1979) has written his hugely popular breakthrough play during his studies at the Stockholm Theatre Academy and has performed it himself at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm to full houses since September 2013. “Sufflören is a pleasure for theatre lovers. It is escaping, contemplative and harrowing, and it is at the same time a testimony, a love story and a heroic story. The performance is educational, and it has elements of stand-up and speeches by Yle Vega’s summer speakers,” says director Marina Meinander.
The soundscape of the play was designed by Antero Mansikka and the lighting design is by Ville Aaltonen.
