The hit of spring 2015, Pippi Longstocking , a great favourite of the whole family, will return to the main stage of the renovated Helsinki City Theatre in September 2017.

As usual, the role of Pippi is alternated between Anna-Riikka Rajanen and Maija Koivisto. The other roles are played by Petrus Kähkönen (Tommi), Raili Raitala (Annika), Ursula Salo, Kaisa Torkkel, Unto Nuora, Panu Vauhkonen, Inka Tiitinen, Tuukka Leppänen, Risto Kaskilahti, Kai Lähdesmäki, Kirsi Karlenius, Sari Haapamäki, Helena Haaranen, Sofia Hilli, Ilkka Kokkonen and Juha Jokela.

The musical play based on Astrid Lindgren’s beloved story is directed by Milko Lehto and conducted by Markku Luuppala. The fast-paced choreography is by Jyrki Karttunen. The colourful world of the performance has been designed by set designer Markus Tsokkinen, costume designer Riitta Röpelinen, lighting designer William Iles , and camouflage and hairstyles designed by Milja Mensonen and Jaana Nykänen. The sound design is by Kirsi Peteri and Jori Tossavainen.

Pippi Longstocking, a musical adventure for the whole family, premiered on 15 January 2015 on the big stage of the Helsinki City Theatre, where it was performed with great success throughout the spring until the start of the theatre’s renovation. The play has been dramatized by Staffan Götestam and the compositions are by Georg Riedel and Jan Johansson. The musical play has been translated into Finnish by Liisa Ryömä, and the Finnish translation of the song Pippi Longstocking (1969) is by Kari Tuomisaari

The enchanting power of the Pippi story, written by Astrid Lindgren in the 1940s, has not faded over the decades, but the popularity of the small, independent braided head has remained from one generation to the next. The performance, which is suitable for everyone over the age of 5, was seen by 52,000 spectators at the City Theatre during the spring of 2015.
