World-famous make-up artist teaches at Helsinki City Theatre

On the initiative of its own staff, the Helsinki City Theatre is organising a training event for the world-famous Italian make-up artist Luca Luce at Studio Elsa on 4-5 November 2019. The two-day Luca Luce Masterclass event is intended for professional make-up artists, but others interested can also follow the makeup guru’s work by participating in the morning demo sessions.

Milanese make-up artist Luca Luce will arrive in Finland for the first time at the beginning of November, and offer his teachings to Finnish make-up artists. Luce’s 3D makeup art combines classic drawing and makeup in an incredible way, creating optical illusions in the viewer’s eye.

Luca Luce Masterclass offers make-up artists the opportunity to develop drawing skills, the use of light and shadow, and learn how to use 3D make-up techniques when making camouflage designs and implementations.

The initiative to organise the course was born in connection with the planning of the Helsinki City Theatre’s camouflage department’s training calendar for 2019-2020. There was no suitable course available in Finland, so they had to organise one themselves.

“We have been following Luca Luce’s work on Instagram, and we decided to contact him. I feel that learning Luca Luce’s 3D make-up techniques is hugely useful for us in making theatre masks. At the same time, we also offer the opportunity for top training to other professionals in the field in Finland,” says Henri Karjalainen, Head of the Camouflage Department.

Full-day tickets with a workshop are sold to professional make-up artists. In addition, tickets for the morning demo sessions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. are also sold to others interested in Luca Luce’s work. The demo parts will be interpreted from Italian into Finnish.

Luca Luce

• Milanese designer and 3D makeup artist (b. 1978).
• Drawing has been a passion since childhood.
• She has worked as a make-up artist at Italian Television for 15 years.
• Started developing 3D makeup art in 2014 by first drawing 3D images on her hand, and from there she started to develop the 3D makeup technique further.
• Luca Luce has more than a million followers on various social media worldwide.
