Ritva Valkama conquers the Helsinki City Theatre with her charisma in August
When watching the new play at the Helsinki City Theatre, you can’t help but
all the time without remembering that it is an American story,
a backyard shoot from deep in Oklahoma.
Tracy Letts spares nothing in August (2007).
Retired parents languish forgotten in their cottage, Violet (Ritva
Valkama) as a frustrated, ill-tempered drug abuser and
Beverly (Juhani Niemelä) heavily intoxicated with one collection
as a poet.
The couple’s three daughters Barbara (Riitta Havukainen), Ivy (Heidi
Herala) and Karen (Aino Seppo) have been seemingly successful
thanks to the diligence of parents from poor backgrounds.
Daughters who settled in California and Florida with their husbands and children
rarely visit their childhood home. Except now, in August, when
We are remembering a father who committed suicide.
One bubble
Substance addiction, cheating society, belittling each other and
abuse, mixed sexual relations, mutual relations between relatives,
sex, child sex, loneliness, forgetfulness, the
subjugation -Tracy Letts’ skilful play text unwinds the family’s
oddities, which are more than in the TV comedy series from years ago
In a bubble.
Kari Heiskanen’s strong directorial touch mixes idyll with cinematic
in seizures, parallel, sequential, simultaneously sideways.
Before his decisive step, his father hired his mother as an assistant in the house
Cheyenne Indian, whose enigmatic presence was described by Kreeta Salminen
acting delightfully.
The father’s death is investigated by a sheriff (Seppo Halttunen), who always reveals
that he loved Barbara fervently. One of the finest in the play
of the scenes is the moment of confessions of Halttunen and Havukainen. Tragic
The whole also contains amusing comic elements.
A lot and a long time
In Kari Heiskanen’s direction, good actors stay in shape. Almost
Despite the three-hour duration, the American backwater
interesting from start to finish. At the beginning of Leena Uotila’s
the outspoken and foul-mouthed Mattie Fae stands out from the beautiful Kreeta Salminen
and the gorgeous-bodied Matti Olavi Ranin .
After the intermission, Ritva Valkama’s captivating charisma begins when
He begins to unravel the dark secrets of the family. Should also be noted Salla
Sivén’s disguise and Taina Tervo’s hairstyles. Especially women’s second
character traits that are more horrible than each other are emphasized by their appearance
means.
A lot of plays come from the USA for international distribution. Guaranteed
successful songs, however, are mostly theatrical
uninteresting musicals or the American dream
critically examining classics.
However, August is a new play and takes place in modern times. That too
it’s nicer to say that the theatre audience is interested in it:
The City Theatre’s spring season performances have already been sold out.
