Are you ready to lead the technical entity of Finland’s largest theatre and enable the creation of Broadway-level productions?

Helsinki City Theatre is looking for
TECHNICAL MANAGER

to be responsible for the theatre’s stage, lighting, sound and real estate functions as a whole. You will be supported by a skilled and experienced team of managers, and in the position, you will act as a member of the management team and report to the production director.

You will be able to implement ambitious theatre and dance productions together with the best professionals in the country and build technical operating models that enable even higher-quality, safer and more resource-wise production operations.

As a technical manager:

• You will lead the theatre’s stage, lighting, sound and real estate operations together with skilled managers and develop cooperation between departments
• You will be responsible for the technical feasibility of productions, resourcing and the production of technical resource, capacity, schedule and cost estimates
• ensure technical quality, safety, risk management and appropriate use of resources, and lead the continuous development of safety practices
• You will be responsible for your area of responsibility’s budget, procurement, investment planning, and the management and development of the life cycle of technical equipment, systems and facilities
• You will be responsible for coordinating the technical functions of Lilla Teatern, Studio Pasila and the Arena stage as part of the theatre as a whole
• You will participate in the management of property maintenance, renovation projects and the development of business premises
• You will act as a key partner for the production manager and producers in the planning and implementation of productions
• You will participate in the work of the management team and act as a key partner for the Production Director in the implementation of the strategy

What does it take to succeed in the position?

We are looking for an experienced technical production professional who combines a strategic vision with practical work. You understand the needs of a demanding production environment and are able to reconcile artistic goals, technical requirements, safety, resources and finances. You will make decisions consistently even under pressure and build an operating culture in which continuous improvement and joint success play a key role.

In terms of your background, we expect from you:

• training suitable for the position
• experience in supervisory and leadership positions
• experience in procurement, contract and negotiation situations
• Evidence of successful management of demanding productions or technical entities
• experience in budgeting, procurement or investment planning
• the ability to utilise digital tools in the management and development of operations
• Finnish and English language skills

We especially value:

• Experience in a theatre, event, concert, cultural or venue environment
• Strong safety thinking and practical experience in risk management
• experience in the development of operating models, processes and organisations
• Lean thinking and the ability to build a systematic culture of continuous improvement
• Experience in property maintenance or business premises development

In addition, we consider it an advantage:

• Experience in partnerships, rentals, productization and sales of services
• interest in developing environmental responsibility
• interest in the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence solutions in the development of operations
