Review: XPSD

Revealing XPSD

If you haven’t seen contemporary dance in a while (or ever!), I recommend Helsinki Dance Company’s XPSD performance. The hour can accommodate brutal emotions and carnality for all the money. The movements are choreographically demanding, and it is easy to see that they tire the six dancers to the limit of their strength. This was probably the purpose of the work, as the experience is purifying and liberating for the viewer. Choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström has also gained international fame. The artist professor describes his work as follows:

“XPSD is an open opportunity and a play on words. I have a dozen options for what that could mean, one of them has been revealed.

I especially liked Erika Turunen’s costume, which oozes sensual style and reveals the dancers’ muscles.
