Review: Hotelli Paradiso

FERVOR IN THE HOTEL



INTRIGUE, misunderstandings, verbal fireworks, courtesy, slamming doors. Hotel Paradiso, directed by Neil Hardwick, proceeds in a very farcical style at the Helsinki City Theatre.

It is a chaotic love affair by Georges Feydeau , a playwright who lived in Paris at the end of the 1800s, which, as the name suggests, takes place in a hotel.

Whether farce as a genre is close to your heart or not, you have to admit that the crew of Hotel Paradiso knows the sport. Santeri Kinnunen , who plays the main role, engineer Benoit Pinglet, who is bored with his wife, is especially charming in his role. The mimicry is more than alive, the timing is precise and the throwing into the role is great.

Sometimes Charles Chaplin flashes in my mind, sometimes Uuno Turhapuro. Tiina Lymi as his wife also gets wild. Katariina Kirjavainen’s set design takes you to the Parisian atmosphere of the era with style.
