Review: Miten menestyä vaivatta liike-elämässä

Of course, effortlessness is apparent, both in terms of competence and success in business life. The musical How to Succeed Effortlessly in Business Life on the Helsinki City Theatre’s Main Stage shows how much work and expertise it takes to build a skilled performance.

These guys know how to do it: director, choreographer Markku Nenonen, set designer Jani Uljas, costume designer Elina Kolehmainen and, of course, the young (b. 1988) conductorRisto Kupiainen, who leads the orchestra.

When the director has a full house at his fingertips, as Nenonen has, the result cannot go wrong. The full house is made up of a Broadway musical that has enjoyed success in different decades, the story of which is really funny and compelling, and of course the actors that Nenonen has brought in.

Antti Lang , who calls himself an “actor who makes small but great art”, has already been seen many times at the City Theatre, but now he blows up the pot as the clever J. Pierrepont Finch who climbs the stairs of success. Lang makes a real breakthrough as a singing and dancing actor! I boldly guess that Daniel Radcliffe , known as Harry Potter in 2011 , was not as charming on Broadway in the same role as Lang in Helsinki.

Esko Roine is guaranteed Roine in his role as the head of the Global Parcel Buttons company, Kaisa Mattila in her charmingly adorable role as the stupid honey bunny, Anna Victoria Eriksson as the sweet Rosemary. The list could go on and on, as there are no weak links in the performance.

As a cherry on top of the cake, I put Elina Kolehmainen’s costumes in the spirit of the 1950s and 1960s and the Mad Men TV series. I would like to have many dresses, jackets and handbags for myself from the play!
