Review: Komisario Palmun erehdys
THANK YOU, INSPECTOR PALMU
The excited and anticipated mistake of Inspector Palmu at the Helsinki City Theatre is a cultural act. The play is like a bride: a little old, a little new, a little borrowed and a touch of blue. The text and characters of the classic have been lightly quoted to modern times, and in blue you can see respect for Finland’s recent history, for example. The film is reminded with sets, cuts and cuts – small and without gimmicks.
Mikko Kivinen lends himself excellently to the grumpy Inspector Palmu, Risto Kaskilahti is an excellent cook, Leena Uotila is a stubborn aunt, Jari Pehkonen is a proper debaucherous victim, Vuokko Hovatta is a charming lady and all the other roles are clicking.
The film was chosen as the best Finnish film of all time in 2012, and the play does not disappoint either. I’ve seen my movie, but I found myself nervous about the ending. And it was exhilarating!
