Let’s love without knowing anything @ Helsinki City Theatre

Before HKT’s renovation is completed, Moritz Rinken’s comedy Love Without Knowing Anything will be seen on the Pengerkatu stage. Two couples, Sebastian (Jouko Klemettilä) and Hannah (Laura Alajääski) and Roman (Ville Tiihonen) and Magdalena (Ursula Salo), are exchanging apartments and then meet each other in this spirit. Things are already being loaded out of the car and into the car, but in the end, everyone stays in Sebastian and Hannah’s apartment.

I didn’t really have any expectations about the performance, I got interested in it mainly because of the actors and they were all really good. The performance was also a very positive experience, many funny parts, an interesting story, functional characters and a lively execution. I thought it was great to sit in the audience and watch some other people’s lives, enjoying what they did and said. So the characters are very successful and feel like real people.

Of the characters, I especially liked Ville Tiihonen’s Roman, this spacecraft nerd is a delicious character and all gestures and tones of voice suit the guy perfectly. Ursula Salo as Roman’s wife Magdalena is also charming and funny, and her work as an animal physiotherapist sounds very interesting. Laura Alajääski is excellent as Hannah and seems to be the most sensible person in the group, as she stays quite calm and tries to keep the rest of the group in check. I didn’t like Jouko Klementtilä’s Sebastian at the very beginning, but as soon as the show really started, I started to like Sebastian more and more. He is a versatile character and brings interesting things to the story.

Special points for the scene seen in the second half, where the set is stunning and the spatial landscape looks spectacular. The set design is pretty much the same throughout the play and of course that’s the case, we’re in the same place all the time. The books do disappear from the shelf at some point, I didn’t even notice at first that they are no longer there and then I wondered where they ended up. The set design of the performance is just as it fits the story.

Overall, Let’s Love Without Knowing Anything was a fun and entertaining show that it also made me think that there are all kinds of people and even a bit of strange couples, as sometimes it felt like they had nothing in common. I enjoyed myself in the stands very much, a couple of hours passed quickly with these guys!
