Polyphonic circus tricks

Can a horse talk? In the foyer of the City Theatre, it even performs circus tricks! The Boy and the Star is an innocent animal tale by Barbro Lindgren , in which a circus boy and a horse become friends because they were born on the same day. Their birth is also marked by the appearance of two guiding stars in the sky.

Tähti (Reetta Honkakoski) is a lovely fairytale horse who can both talk and dance. It is fitting for a children’s story that only children can hear it speak. Sami Uotila is a circus-bred five-year-old boy who would not leave his friend at any price.

However, the circus world is not merciful to children. The circus director sends Tähti far away when she is no longer able to surpass herself in circus performances. The play’s eventfulness comes from Tähti’s attempts to find his way back home.

Although the play only has two actors, it has numerous roles, from a cruel circus leader to a lost and sad whale. The actors transform credibly from one role to another only by slightly changing their voices and postures.

The fairy tale has been adapted and directed by Peter Engkvist just for two. Creating an illusion is easy when you do it sincerely. Energetic breakdances and rap songs get kids excited. Falling over makes even adults laugh.
