Trapped

Excitement is not my sport, and I’m afraid of both the dark and mice. Still, I sit in a dark hall watching The Mousetrap and wondering who is murdering and whom – and I enjoy myself.

Nostalgia is my sport, and I get to pop into 1950s England. Agatha Christie’s story is so addictive and skilfully executed that I suspect everyone who is left at the mercy of a snowstorm in a boarding house is both a victim and a murderer. And I’m not afraid, I’m refreshed.

And I’m not the only one: The Mousetrap is the world’s longest-running play, which has been performed in theatres non-stop since 1952.
