I wish Sally Salminen could see how Emma Klingenberg shines in Lillan’s musical Katrina

Jakob Höglund is not known as a fine musical director for nothing. Lilla Teatern’s Katrina plays to the fullest, without forgetting humour.

Musical directed by Jakob Höglund, Artistic Director of Lilla Teatern, at Lilla Teatern: high expectations. Höglund is already known as a musical genius in her own right, and the lead role is also played by Emma Klingenberg, who was seen in Höglund’s beloved musical Once, which became Lillan’s hit.

The work now being directed is Sally Salminen’s Katrina, published in 1936, which was forgotten and despised for decades in Finland.

Katrina, which has since been elevated to a major work alongside Ilmari Kianto’s The Red Line and Väinö Linna’s The North Star, was seen last year as a praised adaptation on the big stage of the Tampere Workers’ Theatre. What will happen to Lillan’s human-sized person?

It’s going well, from many angles. Höglund and his team have created a great package.

Klingenberg is sovereign, dazzling on stage. But at the same time as she performs a wow-class individual performance, she is a seamless part of the ensemble together with Aili Järvelä, Ulriikka Heikinheimo and Senni Valtonen.
