Colorful coral reef comes to life musical

All the shades of the rainbow and the latest theatre technology are in use when the Disney musical The Little Mermaid takes over the main stage of the Helsinki City Theatre.

The people of the sea move beautifully in the depths. Their glittering tails flutter so gracefully when swimming that the viewer is left wondering why on earth Ariel wants to get rid of it

The traditional princess plot of the story is not one of the best aspects of the musical, but the glorious crowd scenes almost take your breath away.

Sanna Saarijärvi as the sea witch Ursula is the undisputed star of the play. There is depth to his interpretation: the chilling monster is basically just an outcast child. Tuukka Leppänen’s Seagull Skutti is also an insightfully exhilarating character.
