An 18th-century farce gives Lilla Teatern’s ensemble the chance to put on French court make-up and have fun with slapstick humour. The play’s strongest quality is the sensual lust that radiates around the boy washer Cherubino.

The Marriage of Figaro from 1784 is a bedchamber farce of the most classic kind that gets a funny and inspired interpretation at Lilla Teatern. There is a lot of humor, misunderstandings and slamming on doors so that there is enough and leftovers. Especially Joonas Heikkinen in the role of the Count brings out all the comic potential of his deeply unsympathetic character.

The plot is spiced up with a quick slapstick humor to comical sound effects. The ensemble makes ingenious use of Sven Haraldsson’s stripped-down set design, whose large red foam rubber blocks serve as doors, beds, parapets and weapons. The actors’ doll-like hoof make-up and colour-coded costumes build up to a visually striking whole.
