Jenny (Pia Andersson) and Sam (Lauri Tilkanen) have moved into a Victorian terraced house with their baby, where strange things begin to happen. While Sam is away on business, Jenny hears voices through the baby monitor every night at 2:22. She believes the house is haunted, but Sam finds a rational explanation for everything.
“2:22 A Ghost Story is a well-crafted thriller that dares to take chilling questions seriously while retaining a deeply human quality beneath its rough edges,” says director Paavo Westerberg.
Written by British playwright Danny Robins, 2:22 A Ghost Story premiered in London in 2021 and has already been hailed as a modern classic.
In 2:22 A Ghost Story, supernatural experiences intrude on the familiar routines of life with a baby – rather than unfolding in some remote old castle – making the setting instantly relatable.
“The classic thriller set-up with a modern twist draws you in and guarantees that the audience will be swept up in the mounting tension,” Westerberg says. “But how fully you surrender to it is up to you. After all, a ghost train is no fun if you take it too seriously.”
With its time-worn atmosphere and echoes of decades past, the Arena Stage is the perfect setting for 2:22 A Ghost Story. Director Paavo Westerberg is renowned for creating powerful atmospheres that audiences can effortlessly immerse themselves in. His most recent example was the sold-out epic Fanny ja Alexander (2022) on the Main Stage.
