Pertti Jarla’s unique wonder city was a classic of Finnish humour from its inception, and currently it entertains more than a million Finns six days a week in its comic form. Now, this unbridled humour phenomenon, which has become a national work from a comic, is taking to the theatre stage. The plot of the play serves up brand new jokes, not forgetting the memorable classic throws of familiar characters from the comic pages. In the midst of all that laughter, the viewer notices that today’s Finland is already frighteningly similar to the world of Fingerpori.
It’s a beautiful Sunday in the city of Fingerpori. Children play in the yard of a nuclear power plant, Jesus runs in the water and Hitler goes fishing in the Bay of Fingers. However, the idyll is unexpectedly shattered when the mayor of Fingerpori, Homelius, invites Heimo Vesa to talk to him.
There is an emergency: the Finnish government is going to forcibly annex Fingerpori to Helsinki. The municipal merger must be prevented and the government must be convinced that the unique population and culture of Fingerpori must be preserved independently. Heimo Vesa is given the task of filming a video diary of life in Fingerpori, which convinces the fathers of the impossibility of a municipal merger. Fingerpori is a comedy written by Petja Lähde and based on Pertti Jarla’s popular comics.
The performance rights are supervised by Petja Lähde and Pertti Jarla.
